They say the eyes are the window to the soul, and healthy, beautiful eyes enhance your facial features and overall appearance. Thanks to an eyelid surgery procedure called blepharoplasty, it’s now possible to continue to add to your eyes’ beauty at any age.
Arroyo Grande and Santa Maria, California-based, board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Raymund J. Llaurado specializes in blepharoplasty, using revolutionary laser technology to make improvements to how your eyelids and overall eye area look and function. Here’s how blepharoplasty works, and how the results bring rejuvenation to your eyes.
What is blepharoplasty?
As we age, our skin tends to sag and get droopier. When this happens to your eyelids, it can give your whole eye area a heavy appearance everywhere from your eyelids to the bags under your eyes, as well as negatively impact your vision.
Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery that refreshes your eyes by lifting, repairing, and rejuvenating your eyelids. Depending on your treatment needs, blepharoplasty can be done on your upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both.
What are the benefits of blepharoplasty?
Depending on your treatment goals and the type of procedure you undergo, blepharoplasty offers cosmetic and health benefits. Lower lid blepharoplasty makes your eyes appear less puffy, decreases undereye bags, and reduces the appearance of fine lines.
Upper lid blepharoplasty reduces the sagginess and heaviness of your eyes and adds definition to your eyelid. It also improves your vision if sagging eyelids have impaired your eyesight.
Who can get blepharoplasty?
Healthy adults who have droopy or puffy eyelids, eye bags, wrinkles and fine lines, or sagging skin around the eyes are good candidates to undergo blepharoplasty. You can usually undergo blepharoplasty if you’re able to go under anesthesia.
What can I expect from my blepharoplasty procedure?
For both upper and lower lid blepharoplasty, Dr. Llaurado uses advanced laser technology to perform the procedure. The laser technology allows Dr. Llaurado to work with an even higher level of precision than traditional surgery, and you’ll also get the benefit of a shorter recovery period, with less swelling and bruising.
Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure, and Dr. Llaurando customizes every surgery based on your individual needs. In general, to perform lower lid surgery, Dr. Llaurado makes a small, invisible incision in the lower lid conjunctiva. He then moves or completely removes extra skin and fat in your lower eyelid area.
When he performs upper lid surgery, Dr. Llaurado makes an incision that is well hidden in your upper eyelid’s natural crease. He moves or removes excess fat and also removes any extra skin.
Your initial recovery period is about 10 to 14 days. After that, you’ll usually be able to resume your regular activities.
Is blepharoplasty is right for me?
In your initial consultation, Dr. Llaurado examines your eyes, listens to your treatment goals, and evaluates your overall health. From there, he develops a personalized treatment plan to get you the results you desire.
