Eyelid Surgery Q & A

How is eyelid surgery performed?

There are different types of eyelid surgery, including upper and lower lid blepharoplasties. You’ll likely receive anesthesia for these procedures.

Lower lid surgery

A lower lid surgery is primarily for cosmetic purposes. Using a laser, Dr. Llaurado makes a tiny incision through the lower lid conjunctiva, the thin membrane that lines the inside of the eye. Doing so avoids an external incision, so there’s no noticeable scar.

After making the incision, Dr. Llaurado removes or repositions any excess fat and skin in the lower eyelid. The result is reduced under-eye bags, puffiness, and fine wrinkles around the eyes.

Upper lid surgery

The upper lid surgery is usually done to treat overhanging upper eyelids -- which can impair vision -- and other defects. It also works exceptionally well for eliminating a tired look.

Dr. Llaurado corrects the upper eyelid through an incision in the natural crease of your eyelid. Next, he removes excess skin and repositions or removes fatty deposits.

The results of your procedure will appear gradually as the swelling and bruising subside, revealing a smooth, well-defined eyelid.

What’s the difference between laser eyelid surgery and traditional eyelid surgery?

Dr. Llaurado performs laser eyelid surgeries for both upper and lower lids and eye bags. Using the laser system, Dr. Llaurado can make precise incisions.

A primary difference between traditional and laser eye surgery is that the laser seals the blood vessels, resulting in less bruising and swelling, and less downtime.

Who is a good candidate for eyelid surgery?

You’re a good candidate for eyelid surgery if you have:

  • Bags under the eyes
  • Drooping lower eyelids
  • Puffy eyelids due to excess fatty deposits
  • Wrinkles and fine lines around the eyelids
  • Sagging skin that makes folds appear around the eyes

With time and aging, many changes occur, including sagging fat and a loss of skin elasticity. That can cause your eyelids to appear heavy and droopy, which makes you look old. Surgery, however, can improve the contours of your eyelids and develop definition.

Dr. Llaurado provides laser eyelid surgery to correct these signs of aging and any deformities and disfigurations that you would like to address. Take advantage of his expertise: Call or book online to rejuvenate and highlight your eyes.
