Facelift Q & A

What is a facelift?

A facelift is a surgical procedure used to improve the visible signs of aging on the neck and face. It can be used to enhance the appearance of:

  • Sagging skin
  • Fat that’s disappeared or shifted
  • Jowls, or sagging skin below your chin and jaw
  • Deep skin folds and lines, such as the nasolabial lines
  • Loose skin and excess neck fat that appears as a double chin

There are different types of facelifts available, depending on your needs, including a traditional facelift, a neck lift, and the LiteLift.

In conjunction with a facelift, many people also opt for a brow lift, eyelid surgery, or other effective treatments including fillers and fat transfers, to help give a more youthful appearance.

How is a facelift procedure performed?

The first step is administering either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.

Using surgical tools, Dr. Llaurado makes the necessary incision to perform the procedure.

A traditional facelift incision usually starts on the hairline near the temples and continues around the ear to the lower scalp area.

Sometimes, a second incision is needed under the chin to improve the neck’s appearance. If so, Dr. Llaurado sculpts or redistributes fat from your face, neck, and under your chin. He repositions the tissue and tightens and lifts the deeper layers of your muscles.

Dr. Llaurado then trims away any excess skin and fat deposits and uses sutures or skin adhesives to close the incisions.

How is the LiteLift procedure different from a traditional facelift?

Dr. Llaurado provides the LiteLift technique as a less invasive, natural-looking facelift. This procedure still addresses the underlying muscle, tissue, and the skin, but the incisions are smaller and limited, and many become undetectable over time.

Fewer incisions mean less downtime and less swelling, bruising, and healing following your procedure. Dr. Llaurado can also perform a LiteLift in-office with local anesthesia, and with or without sedation.

Many people think the LiteLift produces more natural looking results. Instead of lifting or pulling your face horizontally towards your ears, during the LiteLift, Dr. Llaurado lifts vertical, pulling upward, which leads to a younger, more natural appearance.
